This week’s pattern in the Slow Art Party was Revealing. Amy said that the overlapping leaves gave it an X-ray kind of feeling hence the name.
We started out drawing the stems and leaves and added watercolors later. You could either fill in the leaves or fill in the white space around the leaves. In some cases I added the leaves on cards with watercolor blotches that I had made previously.
I keep a small sketchbook in which I document all the slow art patterns. I keep it as a source of inspiration and I flick through it when I’m looking for patterns to add in my mixed media projects.
As I liked this pattern immediately I drew it in my small Fabriano sketchbook and added watercolor in the white space around the leaves. I used one of my favorite colors: Emerald.
I also added the pattern in an art journal that I just broke into. As you can see I iterated it a little by adding a vase and flowers. This is drawn on rice paper and the page behind it is painted in hot pink. I love the transparent effect.
The weekly free Slow Art Parties are hosted by Amy Maricle of Mindful Art Studio.
