I’ve been experimenting a little with painting on top of high contrast black and white photos taken with my cell phone. I selected a couple of nature inspired photos that were not too busy, changed them into black and white in my computer (you could also do this on your phone) and amped up the contrast. I printed them on ordinary printing paper.
I choose flowers and branches as my subject, but you do this with any other subject matter.
There are bits I Iike, but I don’t like the effect on the very dark areas as you then clearly see the paint sitting on top of the image, see the photo below.
Maybe I should turn the process around: print on top the high contrast photos on top of discarded mono print papers. I’ll give that a try when I’m back at the studio.
Have you done of these techniques and if so, how did it turn out?
This one is my favorite: the delicate petals have a painterly look. If I cut out the flowers and make them into a collage with a few other pieces, I’m sure it would look lovely.
I posted a little video on YouTube for a closer look: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mzNr4lW3tUQ
