Oh yeah, I had a lot of fun making my first book for The Art Journal Project with Michelle Schratz. I used up a little of the enormous heap of kraft paper that I’ve been hoarding from deliveries as well as painted papers and assemblages from Fodder School 1 (a class with Aimee Irel). In the photo above you see the little assemblages I’m referring to.
The structure consists of a single, loose, hand-bound signature (which is a number of pages, folded in half and bound together) nested in the hard cover of a book that has fallen apart. Only the back cover and spine are used.
This little assemblage was made with teabag paper on which I machine stitched a piece of ribbon, rusty rope found in the harbour and a strip of hand-painted fabric.
The ribbon was attached to the spine of the book and holds in all together. Its colour matches perfectly with the assemblages. I like the grungy look of this book and I’m looking forward painting in it!
