Escape to the country: Hotel Gaia at Diepenveen

View from the driveway

We treated ourselves to a few nights away at the country. A friend of mine had recommended Hotel Gaia at Diepenveen (close to Deventer) so off we went for some peace and quiet.
“Gaia is the primal mother, the earth, that originated from the Chaos at the beginning of things. Chaos contained the base, the four elements earth, water, air and fire. From that came Gaia.” This is painted in one of the rooms on the ground floor.

Hotel Gaia is stylishly decorated: vintage and new are mixed together with pops of bright colors. This is a style I enjoy very much, so I felt quite at home.

The wallpaper in the Breakfast of Pink Room is not original: the owners found some scraps and had them digitally reconstructed as photo wallpaper.

We had brought our bicycles with us, so we cycled through the area and enjoyed the meadows, farmland, farms and just the quiet of the place. We were able to slow down and relax without too much distraction.

The menu was mostly vegetarian and the food was delicious and exotic. If I’d live in the area I would definately eat there more often!

A colleague of mine grew up in the area. she told me that when they were kids they could see the baroness sitting in the window. Of course they couldn’t get close in those days as there was a fence.

All in all we had a lovely stay, we would love to come back and enjoy once more the quietness, the fresh air and the lovely food. We felt very rejuvenated upon our return.
