Jawel, week 6 (en tevens de laatst week) van The Kick Art E-beat course van Marenthe Otten ging helemaal over het maken van ‘zines’ of accordeonboekjes. Een zine is een afkorting van magazine, het is een kleine publicatie dat lijkt op een tijdschriftje, vaak met twist. Je bedenkt, maakt en publiceert de zine helemaal zelf en het is dus niet commercieel. Het kan over elk onderwerp gaan en je kan het in zwart-wit of kleur maken.
De mijne gaat over Japanse herfst haiku gedichten, ik vond dat erg passen bij de tijd van het tijd.
Week 6, and also the last week of The Kick Art E-beat course by Marenthe Otten, was all about making zines or accordeon books. A zine, short for magazine, is a little publication that looks like a little magazine, often with a twist. You create, make and publish the zine all by yourself and it is not commercial. It can cover any topic and you can make it in black-and-white or full colour. Mine is about Japanese Autumn haiku poems, I thought that fitting to the time of the year.
Ik heb mijn accordeonboekje van aquarelpapier gemaakt, d.m.v. het door midden knippen van een vel en deze aan elkaar te lijmen kon ik een zigzag constructie maken. De ondergrond is met aquarelverf (Daniel Smith) nat-in-nat geschilderd en daar overheen de wolken, bloem en de zonsondergang in gouache. Kleinere details zijn met Posca paint pen, gell pens en Micron fineliner getekend.
De voorwaarden voor de opdracht waren: verwerk een bloem, verwerk een woord dat begint met de letter A en handletter die, en gebruik een van de moodboards uit de cursus. De gedichten heb ik met de hand opgeschreven en alle hoofdletters A zijn uit een vel papier geknipt dat ik eerst met rode acquarel heb beschilderd.
I made my accordeon book out of watercolour paper, by cutting the paper in half, glueing both halves together so I could fold it accordeon wise. The underpainting is done wet-in-wet with watercolours (Daniel Smith) and I painted the sky, clouds and sunrise with gouache. Smaller details are done with Posca paint pens, gell pens and Micron pens.
The requirements for this book were: paint or draw at least one flower, use at least one word that starts with the letter A and handletter it, and use one of the moodboards of the class. I wrote down the poems by hand and all capital As are cut out of paper that I had painted with red watercolour first.
