I’ve taken a break from social media this Summer so I could really enjoy my holidays. It can be such a burden sometimes and from now on I would like to take it easier on myself and only post when I want to instead of have to.
I also didn’t make a lot of art in the past two months or so, but I feel my mojo is slowly coming back.
@jenniferwilkinpenick inspired me to make a few brown paper bag journals. I had a couple of them stored (I keep so much stuff) for an occasion and this is a perfect time to make them. One of them is prepped, one is not and the third one was pink which I am going to keep as a background colour.
How was your Summer sofar? Over here it’s been quite hot.

I found an abandoned painting from a while ago; it

I found an abandoned painting from a while ago; it’s a copy of a Dirk Filarski painting I made in an art class about complementary colours. Purple and orange in this case. What was I going to do with it, finish it and hang it up? I’d never do that, it was not my own. But I liked the colours very much and I like recycling so I made a little sketchbook from this big sheet. The soil became the sky, I’ll add mark making as a last layer. It’s funny how I enjoy making these sketchbooks so much, I even prefer making them than filling them up.

Voor degenen die ons gisteren kwamen opzoeken op de Open Ateliersdag in @art_centre_aalsmeer : dank jullie wel voor je komst, je gezelligheid en de leuke gesprekjes.
Femke van @sppp_femke was zo lief om haar atelier met mij te delen en dat leverde een gezellige dag op. We zijn geïnteresseerd in dezelfde kunstenaars en technieken maar hebben elk ons eigen kleurpalet en daarin onderscheiden we ons. En wie weet gaan we samen wat ontwikkelen….

I am over the moon with the printed fabric I designed during the workshop Surface Design last month with @olivia.bertus
The colours are slightly different and I see a few flaws in the design itself, but I am very happy with the result. I think I’ll make a summer blouse with it.
I also would love to take surface design a serious go, it's a dream I've had for years. Any tips regarding that?

De laatste workshop van dit seizoen: gel of monoprinten met bladeren. Ik vind het heerlijk om de texturen van echte bladeren te zien op papier, het geeft een extra dimensie aan de afdruk. Heb je zin om mooie prints met behulp van echte bladeren te maken, meld je dan aan. Er zijn nog plekken vrij.

I keep and reuse everything from cardboard boxes to failed prints and art pieces. For the backing of these gelli prints I reused sturdy mail enveloppes and cut up packaging.
