The subject of most of my work is flowers. I prefer abstract ones, as I’m not interested in lifelike images, as you might as well take a photograph, in my opinion.
In this workshop, I’ll teach you how to paint stylized flowers—you could also call them silhouettes. It might seem difficult, but you can make this!

We’ll start with the surface, where we apply various techniques such as painting, scraping, and stenciling. We make the surface as busy and interesting as possible.
Then we apply the design of the flower(s) via a reverse technique: negative painting. Negative painting is a unique approach of painting around an object to define it in a composition.

To keep things accessible at first, we’ll start painting on paper. Once you get the hang of it and you’ve developed trust in yourself, you can continue working on a real canvas.

Bring along
- Old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty (I’ll provide a few aprons).
