Watercolour

A watercolour, derived from the French “aquarelle” and the Italian “acquarello” or “acquarella,” meaning “wash drawing,” is a painting created with watercolor. This painting technique uses water-soluble paint on special, thick watercolor paper. Watercolors come in various qualities and price ranges; I started with inexpensive sets and, over the years, have added more expensive brands to my collection.
The beauty of watercolor is its versatility: you can work very delicately and precisely, but also more coarsely or impressionistically. You can work layer upon layer or let the water do its work and see what emerges. It also lends itself well to combining with other media like pencil and pen. I love painting slowly with watercolor; it’s very mindful.
